Today was spent at Balboa Park in San Diego - a pretty amazing place. We started with a trip to the Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theatre for the 11 am show.
The theatre seats about 235 people and offers three shows daily most days of the week.
We saw "Giddy Goat" which was based on a children's story. Well done - nice sound track - fun story!
Here are the two puppeteers who performed - greeting the young audience members after the show. We think it was dad and son team.
Also enjoyed a trip to their tiny gift shop.
From there we visited some of the sites -- the world's largest outdoor organ venue...
While we were there an organist was practicing - very cool to listen to him.
We then visited other beautiful sites around this amazing park...
Next it was time for lunch. We chose to eat sandwiches outside Galileo's Lab at the Science Museum.
The pigeons were looking for handouts underneath our tables.
In the afternoon we took in the Model Railroad Museum.
It was an astounding display of trains of every size...
Such amazing detail...
Joyce took over the camera - and we have lots more photos
Here is a scale layout they are just working on - it shows visitors the steps in the process.
If you love model railroading - this is a must-see stop. The rest of the afternoon and evening was spent waiting outside the Old Globe Theatre for our play to begin at 8 p.m.
I tried to make friends with the natives...
Visited other sites in the park...
Took a photo of the Eureka window -- a treat for Hands 2 Grow fans!
Enjoyed the Shakespeare park bench
Tried to get inside the Globe Theatre for a private tour -- no luck!
Checked out a tribute to Shakespeare.
And ate at Lady Carlyn's Pub outside the theatre which didn't open until 6:30 p.m. Finally we got inside the theatre at 7:50 pm! Sadly the show wasn't staged in the Old Globe, but in their outdoor theatre. Of course, no photos allowed of the performance. It was great - we all enjoyed the show!
Temperatures were cool -- probably in the 60s by the end of the show - everyone was wearing jackets and some carried blankets. The Merchant of Venice didn't end until 11 pm and then it was at least a half hour back to the hotel.
Long day! We were happy to get to bed...
Love,
D
